Maple Seed Collective has a Skutt KMT1227PK kiln for use. Opening is 28" wide x 28" long x 27" depth for a total of 10 cubic feet and can approximately fit 50 tea bowls (6" diameter, 3" high tea bowls)

Fire options include: Cone 04, Cone 06 and Cone 6.

The kiln is off site from the studio, but both the studio and kiln are located in Clearwater, BC.

Please see price options, there is a minimum charge of $15 for kiln firing services, regardless of amount of pieces fired. These are estimates as each piece is unique, and these prices do not take into consideration of the other factors such as shape, size, total space in kiln and total number of pieces to fire, etc.

Expectations

Bisque Firing:

  • All pieces must be bone-dry prior to drop off.
  • Pieces should be smaller than 1/2 inch thick.

* If a bisque piece is not dry enough or too thick, it may explode during firing. This requires the kiln to be thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed, an extra charge will apply.

Glaze Firing:

  • Pieces should not have any glaze on the bottom. Pieces should be properly glazed so the glaze does not run onto the shelf.

* If glaze pieces have too much glaze applied and melt onto the kiln shelf, the kiln shelf needs to be grinded down. You will be notified of this and if damage is extensive, an extra charge will apply.

Failure to meet these expectations could result in:

  • Fines for damage to the kiln or kiln shelf.
  • Cancellation of your firing.

Pick Up:

  • Items must be paid for when picked up. Pieces will be held for 14 days. After 14 days, pieces will be subject to disposal, unless agreed upon by Maple Seed Collective to hold pieces for longer.

Disclaimers:

  • Due to the nature of pottery and kiln firing process, Maple Seed Collective/Beth Northcott are not responsible for any damage caused by transportation or firing of the items.
  • The owner if each piece fired is responsible for kiln or shelf damage caused by defects in their work and will be subject to a repair fee.
  • Firing defects may occur due to poor construction, dampness, air bubbles, over or under glazing, etc.
  • By dropping pieces off at Maple Seed Collective, you agree to the terms and disclaimer; Maple Seed Collective is not liable for any losses.
