Create beautiful, lace-textured clay dishes using vintage doilies and simple hand building techniques! In this relaxing and creative class, you’ll learn how to roll, shape, and press clay to form elegant dishes that showcase intricate patterns and textures. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to explore surface design in clay.

Instructor: Heath Fehr

Heath is a multi‑disciplinary artist living and working on the unceded territories of the Secwepemc First Nation. A process‑based creator, Heath uses art as a tool for communication and self‑regulation—exploring themes like mental wellness, creative flow, texture, and identity through vibrant and playful work. As an instructor, Heath welcomes students of all ages and all skill levels, fostering a safe, inclusive environment where creativity thrives and inner visions are brought to life.


What You’ll Learn:

  • Basics of hand building with slabs

  • How to use doilies and lace to create texture

  • Shaping and forming clay into dish or bowl forms

  • Finishing techniques: smoothing edges, adding foot rings, and preparing for bisque firing

  • Glazing options to highlight your textures

What to Bring:

  • Any special doilies, lace, or texture materials you’d like to imprint into your dish (optional, can choose from Heath's vintage set)


Class details:

  • Duration: 1.5 hours

  • Age: Participants 14 or older may attend independently. Participants under 14 are welcome when accompanied by an adult who is also enrolled in the class.

  • All materials and supplies included (clay, tools, firing)

  • Includes clay, glazes and kiln firings
